White Doughnut

Here, I was experimenting with making my white paint (aka the frosting) glossy. It definitely painted on as very shiny, but now that it’s dry, much — but not all — of the shine is gone. It looks like I will need to continue to experiment with the ratio of glazing medium to paint. Or, I may need try some of the other mediums I have like matte medium.

(UPDATE: I just learned that the likely best candidate for making my paint look glossy is the gloss medium — NOT the glazing medium. I’ll have to purchase some and test it out.)

Winter Sunset

This painting was done on a 6×6 canvas panel, and is based on a photo I found on Pixabay. I’ve had this reference photo (significantly cropped from the original) for quite some time. I enjoyed painting it. However, my own photo of my painting is not that great, despite my fiddling with the properties. Around the white sun, I actually have more yellow blended into the orange of the sky. Ditto for the reflection at the bottom right.

Oh, and for the first time, I used my fan brush in painting the vegetation.

Red-Winged Blackbird

This painting was done on a 6×6 canvas panel, and is based on a photo I found on Pixabay. I’ve had this reference photo for seemingly forever, but it wasn’t as exciting to paint as I thought it would be. (I live near a creek with lots of reeds, where red-winged blackbirds hang out.)

Crow

I did this painting on an 8×8 canvas which I had months ago applied modeling paste to, without knowing what I was going to do with it. So I decided to paint the crow (based on an image by mycol from Pixabay). After a while, it gets tiring to paint other people’s work from class, ugh.

I enjoyed painting this.
