Quick willow charcoal sketch done today after work.

Karen Margulis offered her Patreon members a demo of how to paint shiny objects. Using her reference photo — but modifying it for my own purposes — I did this study on Colourfix Original (Soft Umber color), and used both hard and soft pastels.

Today for her Patreon members, Karen Margulis had a photo demo of painting a shiny vase in soft pastels. I used the reference photo provided, but decided to draw the vase in charcoal first, and later filled in the shapes with the colors I saw using pastel pencils. This was done on plain ol’ drawing paper.

This study is based off a reference photo used in Jane Lazenby’s “Drawing the Human Figure” class on ArtTutor.com (which is closing in March 2022).

I drew this glass as a follow-along effort based on what I learned at The Drawing Source website.

This image is based on a reference image by inna mikitas from Pixabay. I used mostly Richeson hand-rolled pastels from their portrait sets.

This drawing in vine charcoal is based off an image by inna mikitas from Pixabay. The paper is a brown shade of Canson Mi-Tientes. My intention is add color with soft pastels.

This study was done on “Cinnamon” Canson Mi-Teintes (smooth side) in charcoal, soft pastel and pastel pencil. It was based on a demo in Sarah Hoggett’s Drawing & Painting Portraits & Figures: A complete step-by-step course, with 35 projects and 800 photographs.

Another hand based on the Crilley book…
