After Degas… Woman Combing her Hair

This is a 20 minute charcoal sketch based off Degas’ Nude Combing her Hair, which he did in pastels.

You can see where I had to restate lines to get the shapes (somewhat!) closer to the original.

This was done in charcoal pencil (2B and 6B) on gray-toned paper. The reference photo was from the Life Drawing Techniques class on ArtTutor.com

These sketches are based on lessons in the book I bought a few weeks ago (Mark Crilley’s Ultimate Book of Drawing Hands).

She’s on the run… and yeah, that “she” is me — or was! Way too many years ago. This was in St. Augustine, Florida.

This sketch was based on a reference image provided in the ArtTutor.com class “Drawing the Human Figure & Life Drawing Techniques”.

This study is based off a reference photo used in Jane Lazenby’s “Drawing the Human Figure” class on ArtTutor.com (which is closing in March 2022).

This image is based on a reference image by inna mikitas from Pixabay. I used mostly Richeson hand-rolled pastels from their portrait sets.
