Artists Network Drawing Together: Poppy

March 4, 2022March 3, 2022 | cathmary1030

Today I drew a poppy using willow charcoal, vine charcoal and white “charcoal”. I riffed off the Artists Network Drawing Together episode (102) but mostly just used the reference photo (after grayscaling it). For better or worse, not much following along.

Artists Network Drawing Together: a slice of Pie

This drawing was done on regular drawing paper (Blick Studio) using willow charcoal. It was based on a reference photo provided in Artists’ Network Drawing Together episode #71.

Quick Sketch: Slice of Cake

March 2, 2022January 30, 2024 | cathmary1030

I was checking out the Artists Network “Drawing Together” site, and the 100th episode features drawing a slice of cake. This is my quick sketch attempt. I used graphite instead of charcoal.

Quick Sketch: Simba

March 1, 2022February 27, 2022 | cathmary1030

I only had 15 minutes today to do any drawing or sketching at all, so this is Simba, one of my two cats. His face is wonky; the front paw is probably the most accurate part of the sketch.

My favorite flower: this was based on a recent trip to the “Dallas Blooms” show at Dallas Arboretum.

Karen Margulis Patreon Follow-Along: Shiny Vase

February 26, 2022February 20, 2022 | cathmary1030

Karen Margulis offered her Patreon members a demo of how to paint shiny objects. Using her reference photo — but modifying it for my own purposes — I did this study on Colourfix Original (Soft Umber color), and used both hard and soft pastels.

Shiny Vase in Pastel Pencil & Charcoal

Today for her Patreon members, Karen Margulis had a photo demo of painting a shiny vase in soft pastels. I used the reference photo provided, but decided to draw the vase in charcoal first, and later filled in the shapes with the colors I saw using pastel pencils. This was done on plain ol’ drawing paper.

White on Black – Tango Dancers

This study is based off a reference photo used in Jane Lazenby’s “Drawing the Human Figure” class on ArtTutor.com (which is closing in March 2022).
